Indian cooking is one of the best cuisines in the world for vegetarians, and our menu at Avatar has a full vegetarian section. Here is what to try, plus some honest advice if you need to avoid gluten.
Our favourite vegetarian dishes
- Palak paneer: cottage cheese in a creamy spinach purée
- Dal Bukhara: black lentils slow-cooked with butter and cream
- Malai kofta: potato and paneer dumplings in a rich tomato gravy
- Bagare baingan: eggplant with coconut, peanuts and sesame
- Vegetable biryani: fragrant layered basmati, served with raita
- Pakora and samosa: to start
Vegan-friendly options
Several dishes can work for vegans, such as dal tadka, mixed sabzi, jeera aloo and pumpkin masala, but some recipes use ghee or cream. Ask our team and we will tell you what can be adapted on the day. Several of our wines are also vegan.
If you are avoiding gluten
Many curries are naturally made without wheat, and rice dishes are a good base. However, our kitchen uses gluten, dairy and nuts extensively, so we cannot guarantee any dish is gluten free. If you have coeliac disease or a serious allergy, please talk to our staff before ordering and read our allergen information. On our menu, (G) marks dishes that contain gluten and (N) marks dishes with nuts.
